Practical Guide for Himmafushi
Important information to plan your stay on a local island in the Maldives.
Currency and Cash
ATMs are limited at Himmafushi. We recommend bringing enough **cash in US dollars (USD)**. The banknotes must be in good condition and be from series after 2013, as local businesses do not accept old or damaged banknotes.
Customs and Culture
Being a local island inhabited with Muslim culture, it is important to dress respectfully outside the beach (shoulders and knees covered when walking around the town). The sale or consumption of alcohol is not allowed on the island, although there are floating boats (*safari boats*) minutes from the coast where it is possible to consume it legally.
Climate and Luggage
The climate is tropical and warm throughout the year, hovering around 28°C-31°C. Bring light cotton clothing, high factor biodegradable sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap. For surfing, don't forget to bring booties (for walking on the reef), lycra for the sun and spare fins and leash.
